Policies

Our policies outline what we do and don’t allow on our technologies, and have been thoughtfully created to help protect people and businesses.

Tools

At Meta, you’re in charge and in control to stay safe, secure your account, and report something that violates our policies.

Take advantage of our safety tools:

Stay safe: Learn how to create a safer experience, including control over friending others, sharing your personal information and reporting content that violates our policies.
Secure your account: Discover how to set strong passwords and use login tools such as two-factor authentication. Understand what to do if you believe your account has been hacked or need to report security issues.
Protect personal information: Find out who can see your posts and what information is available for public viewing. Discover how to review information when someone has tagged your account or wants to post on your timeline.

Report

The most important thing that you can do if you see something that violates our policies is report it to us. Individuals and businesses can use these tools. Reporting sends a signal to us that something is wrong, and helps improve the quality of your experience on our technologies in the long term. Businesses can report ads or content that they believe harms their brand and violates our policies. You can report anything using these tools.

Verification

We require many businesses to undergo verification to confirm the identities of the business and its representatives before they can use certain tools or features. We’ve designed our systems and verification requirements to reflect the varied sizes, complexities and audiences of the businesses and organizations that use our technology.

Verification requirements include activities such as:

Confirmed Page owner

Verifies the authenticity of people or organizations who manage Pages with a large audience.

Business verification

Required for business app developers who want to use certain APIs.

Authorization process

Verifies the identity and location of advertisers who run ads about social issues, elections or politics, which are also required to include a “Paid for by” disclaimer.

Audience Network

A service that allows mobile app developers to display ads in their apps from Facebook advertisers, and earn money. To screen suspicious app developers trying to onboard onto AN, we require certain developers to go through Business Verification or Identity Verification.

Meta Business Partners

Companies that Meta has vetted for their expertise in helping grow our customer’s business—from running ads, to selling products, to engaging with customers. We require all prospective Meta Business Partners (MBPs) to verify their business before promoting them to Badged Partners. The Meta Business Partner badge is awarded to companies who meet the highest standards of performance and service.

Phone Verification for Advertisers

New advertisers may be required to have a verified phone number associated with their ad account before publishing ads. The required step will prompt an account admin to verify a phone number by confirming a randomly generated code sent by Meta via SMS, Voice, or WhatsApp, before publishing ads.

Verified badge

Some of our most important tools are designed to give people more context about the business or individuals they are interacting with, so they can decide for themselves who to trust. The verified badge appears next to a Facebook Page/profile, Instagram profile or WhatsApp account. It means Meta has confirmed that the account is the authentic presence of the public figure or global brand it represents.

Meta Verified

The Meta Verified subscription bundle for creators includes a verified badge that authenticates creator accounts with government ID, and provides proactive account protection, and access to account support.
The Meta Verified subscription bundle for businesses helps businesses stand out more easily on our technologies and build confidence with their customers. The business is required to clear verification requirements. A verified badge confirms the business is validated and authentic, adds protection for their brand with proactive impersonation monitoring, and provides access to support and troubleshooting for account issues.

WhatsApp passkey verification

After registering your phone number with WhatsApp you can choose to set up a passkey for future verification.

You can use your fingerprint, face, or screen lock to verify it’s you with a passkey. When you register, you can use the passkey instead of an SMS.

You can now do this on your Android or iOS device.

Rating and reviews

Our rating and review feature in Facebook Pages and Facebook Marketplace is designed for people to provide feedback to other people. This gives other people more context about the business or individuals they are interacting with, so they can decide for themselves who to trust.

Ad Library

When it comes to ads, we have a publicly available Ad Library that enables people to search for all active ads running across Meta technologies. See when the ad was posted, which technologies it’s been posted on and who is sponsoring the ad.
Users are also in control of ad preferences.
If you are an advertiser, you can take the Blueprint course on Meta’s ad review process to help you create ads that meet our Advertising Standards.
